Macron will visit Gyumri on May 5

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will be in Gyumri on May 5 as part of a state visit and will take part in a large concert, according to the draft decisions presented at today’s government meeting.

The government will allocate about 393 million drams—more than one million dollars—for organizing the concert.

“On May 5, a large concert is planned to be held at Vardanants Square in Gyumri, dedicated to the friendship between Armenia and France and to the deepening of cultural cooperation.

The concert program will feature Armenian and French-themed songs, performed by renowned Armenian and French artists, accompanied by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra,” the draft decision states.

Gyumri was chosen as the location for the concert because, according to the government, there is strong interest and affection for the French language and French culture in the city, which is linked to the support provided by the people and government of France in rebuilding the city after the 1988 earthquake.
